Get up to speed with driverless vehicles
When it comes to the broad range of life-changing benefits offered by driverless vehicles, no longer having to concentrate on the road and react to what is happening around you is only the tip of the motoring iceberg.
Less congestion, shared vehicle ownership, reduced road injuries and deaths, less demand for carparks at home and at work, reduced carbon emissions … the list goes on and on across a range of significant safety, economic, environmental and lifestyle benefits.
And the exciting news is that within the next decade we can expect to start sharing the road with driverless vehicles and seeing those benefits become reality.
For people who might be getting older and less confident behind the wheel, or those who have a medical condition, disability, or some other reason that has not allowed them to have a licence, this is great news and offers a new era of independent mobility.
A growing number of Australians say they are ready for the transition, with almost half of those surveyed agreeing that travel will be far safer, and nearly three quarters happy to hand over control when they feel physically or mentally unwell.
